Church Chat

Posted on 10/16/2014 by Unknown | 0 comments

Thanks for the patience of my family to get this shot.  I had to sprint 100 yards up and down a steep hill, twice, to grab the right lens and then hope the shot was still there.  I didn't  even notice the kyak guy in the shot below the church.  Thanks buddy.  This was my favorite from the day.  Enjoy.

Steeple-set

A Somerville, MA Church gets the sunset treatment.   Taken from the parking garage at Assembly Row on the night of the super moon.  Enjoy.

Symbiotic Harmony on High.

When I took this photo of the multiple steeples juxtaposed against the backdrop of mountaintop wind turbines, I felt like there was some sort of symbiotic relationship between the two going on.  On some weird level, the turbines help sustain and provide power to the town of Adams, MA, while the steeples sustain our faith in another power.

At first glance, I knew something was up in this photo, but it took some thought to conclude the importance of the old and the new working together.  Either that, or the town is so religious, they needed 5 Christian churches in what seems like a 5 block radius of each other.  I also thought it made for an interesting composition.  Enjoy.

Looks like New England?

Yeah, that's because it is.  Montpelier VT downtown church in late fall.  The colors were appealing to me.  Enjoy.

Someone is watching over you

There are times when a photo needs something extra for effect.  I've strategically placed this young girl (my daughter) holding a bible in front of this beautiful stained glass window at St. Mary's Orthodox Church in Cambridge, MA.  There are many stained glass windows in this church, each one beautifully crafted and preserved.  This shows that sometimes you have to add something to make a photo work.  Enjoy.

A Building's Details, Portrait style

Turn your head, you just might see a better shot.

I pass by this building every day on my way to work and never really thought much about it till I visualized it in portrait mode. I think the column, the arches, the horizontal rusticated limestone, the arched brick and the green shrub make for a very compelling composition, when cropped out of the building. The cross on the column capital gives it away that it's a church. Enjoy.

NYC Cathedral

We were visiting NYC last weekend and my daughter insisted we check out this church right down the street from 30 Rockefeller Ctr. I didn't have my tripod, so I rested my camera on a pew and did a 3 step HDR. I couldn't get in the middle of the church, so I had to make due with this angle. Enjoy.

Steeple in the Trees

I was strolling around Kennebunkport, ME a few weeks ago while the girls were shopping and I was trying to find a way to photograph the steeple of this beautiful church in the center of town. Sometimes it takes a while till you find your vantage point, but after a while, I found the best view. There was a clearing in the trees that nicely framed the steeple. Keep walking around your subject and you'll find where it's best shot is. Perhaps a few weeks later and the leaves would be a beautiful color, but you take what nature give you. Enjoy.
