You know it's cold when the Mystic River freezes over. It takes a few nights around zero for this to happen. I order to get the starburst effect on the sunset, you have to increase your F-stop to as high as it will go. Enjoy.

You've seen it before in my pics, but this is a shot of the John Hand bridge spanning the Mystic River from the opposite side looking back at my office. My office is just over the bridge in the ground level of the brick building. Enjoy.

I've never seen this before in the 14 years I've had my office here. The Fog just came up over the Mystic River quickly and as soon as it was there it left. I ran out to grab this shot of the Rt. 16 Bridge, which I do frequently, but this was pretty eerie stuff. Enjoy

I don't know the name of this river that runs through Montpelier VT, but it adds a serenity to the downtown area. This old railroad bridge is gently rusting in place and makes for a great walkway across the river. I originally shot this and processed in HDR and found I liked this original version with some Lightroom adjustments much better. Enjoy.

This is one of those uniquely rare moments that the sun is low enough in the sky, that the reflection comes all the way under the Rt 16 bridge here in Medford, and illuminates the underside of the arch. Taken right outside my office on the patio. Mystic river reflection. Enjoy.

How can you get this vantage point on a sunrise over Brooklyn, NY you might ask. Well, it helps when you are 14 stories above the waterline cruising along in a 1,000 foot long ship. Cruising into Bayonne, NJ, I got up early to catch this spectacular sunrise and waited till we hit the mark to grab this shot. I got a bunch of great shots that morning and no walking was required.

The only place you can get this photo from is the top deck of a cruise ship as it passes under the Verazano Narrows Bridge at sunrise. Coming back into port to Bayonne, NJ, our ship provided a spectacular vantage point to grab some sunrise over New York pics. Timing is everything. Enjoy.

As the Olympics approach, I wonder when if they might consider bridge jumping into tidal pools. As the tide ebbs and flows, I'm sure this is more or less dangerous, depending on the time of day, but this boy doesn't seem to care at all. I like his form, it's originality, degree of difficulty, and I give him a 9.8. It would have been a 10, but his right foot is not pointing like the left. Enjoy.

I was so looking forward to taking pics of the giant perigree moon a few weeks ago, but the fog came in so fast over the Atlantic, that it reduced visibility to less than 50'. While waiting for the sun to set and the moon to rise, I was walking around behind the local Cosco and saw this nice inlet of the Mystic River and the sunset was casting it's pink on the clouds. I never even knew this was here, and just out of frame to the left is Boston. Enjoy.

We didn't have any snow here in New England this year, so
this is to remind us all that we still aren't out of the woods. All
the lights gave this an orange hue, and I didn't like it, so I converted
to B&W. I think I was standing in a 4' snow bank on this shot.
Enjoy.

Remember that show. I have a vague memory of it
being on TV when I came home from school as a kid and was always
frightened by Barnabas Collins. He was the first real vampire
character, 40 years before Twilight.
It kind of looks like it might be from a church, but this is a shadow from an old bridge.

We finally had our first snow in New England. I wouldn't call it much
of anything, but I thought I'd post this pic of the Mystic River from
one of last year's snowstorms to get us in the mood for more. It's
going to be 45 today, so it won't last long. Enjoy.

Central Park last Fall. How is this possible it's in the middle of the greatest city in the world? Enjoy.

Simple, yet elegant. From the "They don't make them like they used to"
department. This underside of a train bridge is the last photo taken
before it was demolished a few weeks ago. I was fortunate to be there
documenting the demo and reconstruction work, and have other cool photos
to share from this project.
I just love the patterns of rivets in this 1890's era bridge. Enjoy

Just getting in the spirit of things this time of year brings me to this
photo. I took this last year on the John Hand bridge in Medford, MA.
This is adjacent to my offices which are off to the right. It was such a
beautiful morning after a soft and thick overnight snowfall. Enjoy.

When near a river, I'm always looking for branches to frame buildings, bridges, etc. Fall is a great time of year to get the leaves to provide a color punch. This is the Rt.16 Bridge over the Mystic River. I kind of cheated, it's right outside my office. I had to noodle my camera outside the fence and hold it against the rail to steady this hand held shot. Enjoy.

So, we are walking around New York City and end up at the Park Plaza. It's getting late in the day and Central Park is right there so we took a short walk around the lake. It's a great time to cruise around Central Park, the colors are out, the people are out and the weather was awesome. I don't know the name of this bridge or pond, but I love the Ivy spreading across and turning a deep red. Enjoy.

OK, yesterday I was talking about not just focusing on the things in the
air, but on the ground too. So this post is more about getting LOW.
For this shot, I was literally sitting on the dock of the bay, while
sitting my camera on the dock itself and taking a shallow depth of field
shot of the wood planks on the dock. This was in Maine north of
Ogunquit. Hard to believe it was almost 80 degrees in October when I
took this. There is a manual draw bridge for pedestrians in the shadows
beyond. Enjoy.

So really? This is "Sepia Saturday"? I'm really not with the program. Anyway,
this is a shot I took a couple of years ago post heavy snowstorm along
the Mystic River. You can't see the river, it's to the right, but this
is one of the railings that keeps you from falling in. I processed it
then converted to B&W, and thought giving it the sepia treatment
would do it justice. All done in Lightroom. Enjoy.
