How can you get this vantage point on a sunrise over Brooklyn, NY you might ask. Well, it helps when you are 14 stories above the waterline cruising along in a 1,000 foot long ship. Cruising into Bayonne, NJ, I got up early to catch this spectacular sunrise and waited till we hit the mark to grab this shot. I got a bunch of great shots that morning and no walking was required.

This sculpture on the Explorer of the Seas was a fitting reference point for this sunrise as we sailed into the NYC harbor. You can't quite see the sun yet, but the clouds and painted colors were cooperating nicely for this early morning shot. Enjoy.
I got up at 5AM to grab some sunrise photos with New York in the background, on the top deck of the cruise ship and while the sun was just beginning it's ascent, I waited for this jogger to run by me to catch her in motion. She thought she was getting in my way every time she went by, but I told her just to do her thing and I'll do mine. Perhaps that didn't sound so good at the time, but it worked for me on this pic. I caught this sunrise from the deck of our cruise
ship the last day of the trip in Ft. Lauderdale. It looked like a bunch
of explosions over the horizon as the sun peeked around the
cloudbursts. Enjoy.
Sunrise over Dorchester, MA. If any of you know about Dorchester, MA,
it's reputation for crime and murders precedes it, but on this one
morning last weekend, while I was standing on a rooftop taking photos of
a construction project, for over 20 hrs. straight, in the 20 degree
weather, I captured this beautiful sunrise.
The silhouette of the
church and another structure located in the town square could only be
seen from my vantage point. I was happy to make it off the roof without
incident, because it was a sheet of frosty ice. Enjoy.
OK, so this wasn't a planned photo sunrise shoot. We woke up from our cruise after docking in Ft. Lauderdale and bam, this was waiting for me. I grabbed the camera, ran to the side of the boat, and after waiting for the lens to un-fog, started firing away. Spectacular sunrise. All I had to do was wait for the birds. Enjoy.
